River Edge Gallery, a gallery featuring fine contemporary art to Northern Milwaukee, Ozaukee County and beyond, will feature new works by Madison artist Tom Berenz. The exhibition, entitled “Remnants” will open on Friday, June 17 and run through Saturday July 30.
Berenz’s oil works are inspired by photographs documenting the aftermath of natural tragedies across the United States. In his latest large-scale paintings, Berenz rejects painterly and gestural forms in favor of flat, precise paint application and hard-edged geometric shapes. This results in a striking dichotomy between the strong emotional subtext of the work and the stark rigidity of its execution.
“We are thrilled to present Tom’s works to our community,” said Kathy Tatterson, Gallery Director. “This is a great opportunity to offer local fine art to the Ozaukee County region.”
The opening event is slated for Friday, June 17 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. River Edge Gallery is located at 184 S. Main St. in the historic district of Thiensville on the banks of the Milwaukee River. For the opening event, off-street parking will be available at Fiddleheads. It will include a reception and discussion with the artist.
