Thiensville, WI — River Edge Gallery, featuring fine contemporary art
to northern Milwaukee, Ozaukee County and beyond, will open its latest
exhibition, “Line and Form”, by Milwaukee artist Dave Watkins, on
Friday, December 2, 2011 at 4:00 PM.
The show features Watkins’ abstract works in acrylics and mixed
media. The paintings are inspired by his upbringing and life in
Milwaukee, particularly in the Bay View neighborhood. “The theme of
the show is basically my love of detailed line work versus loose color
fields,” Watkins explains. “I am more of a traditionalist abstract
painter with a modern contemporary touch.”
Dave Watkins was born in 1978 and grew up in Bay View. Receiving his
Commercial Art degree from MATC in 2000, By day, he is a graphic
designer. It’s in the late hours of the night when the brushes and
acrylic paint are put to work. These efforts have been rewarded with
over a hundred of his works on display in homes and businesses
throughout the Midwest and from New York to Japan.
His diverse influences include Clyfford Still, Barnett Newman, Richard
Diebenkorn and Jean-Michel Basquiat, as well as “too many street
artists to name”.
“I really connect with their work,” he says.
River Edge Gallery will open the exhibition with a reception on
Friday, December 2 from 5-8 PM. The artist will be on hand to discuss
his work and answer questions. Refreshments will be offered.
