River Edge Gallery, a gallery featuring contemporary art to Northern Milwaukee, Ozaukee County and beyond, will feature new works by transplanted Wisconsin native artist Cassie Marie Edwards. The exhibition, entitled Recollection will begin on Friday, June 15 and run through Saturday, July 28.
In Recollection, Edwards creates still-life oil works of painted figurines and other objects from her childhood. “I see the objects in the paintings …as a personification of my possessions — a fill-in for the friends I’ve been missing since I left Wisconsin,” she explains.
A native of West Bend, she earned her BFA at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2007, and her MFA at Northern Illinois University in 2010. She teaches art history at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota.
The opening reception for this show of life-like representational paintings is slated for Friday, June 15 at River Edge Gallery from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. River Edge Gallery is located at 184 S. Main St. in the historic district of Thiensville on the banks of the Milwaukee River. Visitors will enjoy a reception and discussion with the artist. “We are happy to welcome Cassie back to Southeast Wisconsin,” remarks Kathy Tatterson, Gallery Director. “This is a great opportunity to offer these incredible still lifes to art enthusiasts in her home state.”
