Please join artist Harold E Hansen Friday April 26th 5-8 pm at the opening reception for his exhibition of remarkable fine art lithographs and watercolor and oil paintings.
The show, entitled Harold E Hansen: Realist, is a collection of his intricate stone lithography and oil and watercolor paintings. The exhibition will open with a reception with the artist Friday, April 26 from 5-8 pm and runs through Saturday, June 8, 2013.
His work reflects impressions of his many travels, both here and abroad. “I’ve been to 48 states and eight countries,” he reflects. “When I see something that really grabs me inside, I know it’s something that I want to try to do.” Subjects include The Louvre in Paris, Stonehenge and various other sites in Europe and the US.
Hansen’s influences include Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth and Eric Sloane. However, his inspiration for lithography came from his days as a student at the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis. “The first major influence for my lithography was a print of the tower of the Indianapolis train station”, he explains.
A prolific artist, Hansen has done 88 editions of stone lithographs since 1981 in addition to over a thousand oil and watercolor paintings. His work hangs in private collections throughout the US and includes commissioned pieces for corporations such as Quad Graphics. In 1985 he published Sketches of Cedarburg, which focused on architectural details of the city. He also owned the Harold E Hansen Gallery in Cedarburg from 1998 to 2003. In 2011 he won the Merchandise Award from the Wisconsin Watercolor Society.
“We’re excited to showcase Harold’s fine works,” says Kathleen Tatterson, River Edge Gallery Director. “His intricate lithographs offer a unique view of familiar places.”
River Edge artist Teresa Getty will visit the gallery for a special event Saturday March 16th. Join Teresa for a presentation on art interpretation entitled Experience: Your Way into a Work of Art at 2 PM. In addition to experiencing some of Teresa’s art, she will help interpret some recent paintings by Wisconsin artists Tom Berenz, Beki Borman, David Schaefer and Alicia Czechowski.
After the presentation, Teresa will take your questions about her presentation and her artwork currently on display and join in a reception.
